The Keysight M9048B is a PXIe system module that connects an external PC to the backplane of a PXIe chassis. It installs in the system slot of the chassis and presents a PCIe Gen 3 x8 host link, so a standard desktop or rack PC can control PXIe instruments and modules at high data rates without a proprietary embedded controller.

Because the link runs at Gen 3 speeds, the M9048B suits measurement systems that stream large amounts of data — wideband signal acquisition, multi-channel digitizer arrays and high throughput production test — where Gen 2 modules become the bottleneck. The module uses the chassis backplane for PXI trigger bus and star trigger routing, keeping timing and synchronisation inside the chassis while the PC handles control and data logging.
