The R&S®SMB100M provides exceptional RF characteristics in its class, making it an excellent general-purpose instrument. Its outstanding RF performance, compact size, and low weight make it ideal for a wide range of applications in development, production, and service environments—wherever an analog RF signal is required.
The wide frequency range covers numerous critical RF applications, making the R&S®SMB100M perfect for ISM bands up to 5.7 GHz and EMC applications due to its lower frequency limit of 9 kHz. It can also be used for measuring blocking characteristics up to 12.75 GHz as specified in various telecommunications standards.
The standard overvoltage protection for instruments up to 6 GHz protects the R&S®SMB100M from high external voltages and power applied at the RF output. This feature shields the RF output from unwanted high reverse power and ensures high operational reliability.
The R&S®SMB100M supports power sensors of the R&S®NRP-Zxx family. The R&S®NRP-Z92 power sensor ideally complements the generator's frequency and level range up to 6 GHz. When equipped with such a sensor, the instrument can perform external level correction automatically or precisely measure power in test setups.
The R&S®SMB100M handles important analog AM, FM/φM modulation modes and pulse modulation with excellent characteristics. In AM and FM/φM modulation, the RF carrier is modulated with the internal LF generator up to 1 MHz or with externally applied signals. The two different modulation sources can be internally added to generate two-tone-modulated signals.
Intuitive operation via the graphical user interface and integrated help system facilitates optimal use for various applications. A mouse can be connected via USB to support graphical operation. Remote control is supported via LAN, USB, and GPIB interfaces.
The generator's compact size of only two height units and ¾ 19" width, coupled with its low weight of max. 5.6 kg, makes it ideal for mobile use. It easily fits in any lab and service center where space is often limited.
