Automating oscilloscope calibration represents one of the most significant productivity enhancements achievable in calibration laboratories. Manual calibration requires skilled operators to perform repetitive tasks for substantial time periods. While semi-automated solutions appear to address this issue, they often introduce their own operational challenges.
Over the past decade, oscilloscope technology has evolved from two-channel to more complex four-channel instruments. Calibrating these devices necessitates moving calibration signals between channels, which can be accomplished either through manual cable movement (requiring operator intervention and potentially introducing measurement uncertainties) or via switching matrices (which may cause signal reflections, poor contacts, and path differences affecting calibration accuracy).
The Fluke Calibration 9500B resolves these challenges through true full automation using its unique Active Heads technology. All signals required for comprehensive oscilloscope calibration are generated within detachable heads located remotely from the calibrator mainframe. These heads connect directly to oscilloscope inputs without additional cables.
All waveform control and switching operations are managed by the mainframe but executed within the head itself—typically just millimeters from the oscilloscope input amplifiers. Each 9500B mainframe can control up to five heads, enabling complete calibration of 4-channel oscilloscopes with external triggers without operator intervention or external switching requirements.
The 9500B Oscilloscope Calibrator integrates with Fluke Calibration's powerful IEEE-488 (GPIB) based MET/CAL Plus automated calibration management software. This comprehensive solution not only automates calibration processes but also documents results, manages calibration inventory, and facilitates development of new oscilloscope calibration procedures.
Supporting multi-user networking environments, the software implements advanced features including ISO 9000 compliant traceability, custom certificate and report generation, and high-level procedure programming. The result is increased workload throughput, improved calibration consistency, minimized human error, and reduced operator training requirements—delivering higher quality calibration at lower cost.
To keep pace with the rapidly evolving oscilloscope market, Fluke Calibration continuously develops new calibration procedures. The MET/SUPPORT Gold Software Support Program provides access to all new procedures written by Fluke's software support team throughout a 12-month period—typically exceeding 100 new oscilloscope calibration procedures annually.
New procedures are available for immediate download from our website without request or delivery delays. The program includes 60 days of priority support for implementation assistance. Additional MET/SUPPORT Gold program options offer various advantages, including custom procedure writing services and fast-track procedure development for urgent requirements at competitive rates.
